We all worry about our dog's during the hot summer months, especially when it comes to comfort and safety in their crates. Metal dog boxes, although popular, might not always be the best choice for temperature regulation. So we decided to design the Dog Den, crafted from double-wall rotomolded plastic, offering an alternative with one key thing in mind - protection. Here’s how Dog Dens stand out, particularly when it comes to managing the summer heat.
Why Dog Dens Outperform Metal Dog Boxes
Metal dog boxes have been around for a while, and they’re commonly used for their durability. However, metal conducts heat rapidly, which means these boxes can become uncomfortably hot when exposed to direct sunlight or high ambient temperatures. This can create a stifling environment for your dog, making them prone to overheating.
Dog Dens, on the other hand, are built with double-wall rotomolded plastic, which naturally insulates due to the air gap between the walls. This design helps maintain a stable temperature inside the Den, ensuring it remains cooler than the outside environment. This makes Dog Dens particularly suitable for use in varied climates, protecting your dog from extreme temperatures.

As the temperature climbs into the high 20's, ensuring your dog's comfort becomes a top priority. Our design is great for temperature regulation, but did you know that the colour of your Dog Den can also play a key role in keeping your dog cool?
Analysing Temperature Regulation Across Dog Den Colours
While at the Game Fair this July, our Dog Dens were exposed to 28°C heat and direct sunlight between 8:30-6:30pm. Our results found that not only are Dog Dens an average of 10°C cooler than metal boxes, but the colour of your Dog Den also affects its temperature management capabilities. This is what we found:

Gunmetal: Our popular dark grey colour absorbs the most heat, with its external surface reaching up to 56°C. Inside, the temperature remains cooler at around 26°C, showcasing good insulation but slightly warmer compared to our lighter colours.

Forest: The Forest Dog Den's exterior heated up to 51°C with an internal temperature of 24°C. It reflects more heat than Gunmetal, keeping the interior cooler.

Smokey: Our lightest colour recorded the coolest external temperature at 50°C. The internal temperature matched that of Forest at 24°C, making it the best option for those seeking the coolest environment for their dogs.
What This Means for Dog Owners
The Dog Den represents a significant innovation in dog care, offering better insulation, enhanced safety, and superior comfort compared to traditional metal dog boxes. Its important to acknowledge that the right colour for your Dog Den can significantly influence the comfort level of your dog during these hotter days. While all Dog Dens provide excellent insulation, opting for a lighter colour such as Smokey or Forest might be more beneficial during the summer, reflecting more heat away from the Den.
